The notion of metaphysical emergence is inspired by certain target cases, whereby—on the face of it, and in ways I’ll expand on shortly—‘higher-level’ entities (objects, events, and the like) and features (properties, relations, behaviours, and the like) cotemporally materially depend on ‘lower-level,’ ultimately fundamental physical, micro-configurations and features; yet are also to some extent autonomous, ontologically and causally, from dependence base configurations and features.
